NPP Primaries: Kennedy Agyapong Will Be Hugely Disappointed- Majority Leader

The upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries will bring great disappointment to Kennedy Agyapong, as stated by the Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.

According to him, Kennedy Agyapong, who is considered the main rival of Bawumia, will face significant challenges in obtaining even 15% of the total valid votes cast.

“I will be surprised if Kennedy Agyapong gets even 20% in the presidential primaries,” the Suame Member of Parliament said about his colleague. The leader of the majority side in Parliament, who took his turn on M’abato, Akoma FM‘s evening political show, also stated, “Kennedy Agyapong would not even get 15% in the Ashanti Region.”

The seven-time congressman asserts that Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is the best candidate to improve the economy because of his undeniable financial ability.

The NPP has recently announced the designated voting centers for its upcoming presidential primaries, which are scheduled to take place on November 4, 2023. These primaries will determine the party’s flagbearer for the 2024 general elections and will be held in various constituencies across all 16 regions of the country. The competition for the flagbearer position is intense, with four prominent candidates vying for the role.

These candidates include Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Member of Parliament for Assin Central Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former Minister of Agriculture Dr. Owusu Akoto Afriyie, and former MP for Mampong Francis Addai-Nimoh.

In order to ensure a smooth and peaceful election process, the party has instructed the police to take strict action against any party supporters who attempt to cause trouble on election day.

This demonstrates the party’s commitment to maintaining law and order during the primaries. The party recently conducted a balloting event on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, to determine the order in which the candidates will appear on the ballot.
