Office of Special Prosecutor Finally Gets Permanent Staff; 249 Workers To Start Working In September

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has announced the recruitment of 259 permanent staff.

A publication by the Ghanaian Times quotes the Special Prosecutor, Mr. Kissi Agyebeng as saying “The development is a significant milestone as the office has operated without permanent staff since its establishment in 2018.”

In a report titled “Two Years On, Gains So Far!” it was said that the OSP had extended its three-bedroom house to a 10-story building and converted 10-story buildings with 0 to 249 permanent workers.

Mr. Agyebeng listed numerous ongoing investigations, including those involving the Electricity Company of Ghana Limited, illegal mining, the National Sports Authority, the Ghana Water Company, the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Airbus SE, the Bank of Ghana, the Ghana Police Service, and the estate of Kwadwo Owusu-Afriyie, alias Sir John.

He stated that the OSP’s website and social media accounts had increased citizen participation.

Mr. Agyebeng said that five different trials were going on in three distinct regions.

Mr. Agyebeng stated that his office’s investigation into the cases of former Deputy Minister of Finance Charles Adu Boahen, Gaming Commission, and Charles Bissue, former President, has been concluded and that they are expecting consequential orders.

According to the OSP, the European Union (EU) is sponsoring the establishment of a cybersecurity lab, which will include a forensic laboratory as well as operating vehicles and cars for senior employees.

Mr. Agyebeng said that in order to promote good governance, the OSP had issued two major special corruption reports (the Customs-Labianca report and the NDA report), educated the public on the OSP’s role and responsibilities, ensured that the Ghana Revenue Authority complied with a directive to prevent corruption (by having its employees produce integrity plans), published the most recent Statutory Half-Yearly Report, and set up a toll-free hotline for citizens to report corruption.
