Pentecost Elder Kidnapped By Robbers In South Africa Released

The Church of Pentecost elder, who was previously abducted in Johannesburg, South Africa, amidst a robbery incident at the church last Sunday, has now been freed.

As reported by Graphic Online, he was released on Tuesday night and has since been joyfully reunited with his family. Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Eswatini (Swaziland), Lesotho, Mauritius, and the Seychelles, Charles Owiredu, shared this uplifting news via a tweet on Wednesday morning (November 1, 2023).

The unfortunate attack occurred at the Johannesburg branch of the church of Pentecost during a live service on Sunday, October 29, 2023. The service, which was being broadcast live, was abruptly disrupted by the intrusion of armed robbers who proceeded to steal valuable possessions from the congregation.

Following the robbery, the suspects proceeded to abduct a deacon of the church. The Ghana High Commission in South Africa has officially confirmed the incident and has assured that they are working diligently alongside the security agencies to ensure the safe release of the deacon.

The chairman of The Church of Pentecost in Ghana, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, in a statement dated October 31, 2023, that a three-day prayer and fasting period would commence from October 31 to November 2, 2023.

During this time, the church will also be interceding for global peace, with a particular emphasis on the ongoing conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine. Apostle Nyamekye further mentioned that the church is currently collaborating with Ghana’s High Commission in South Africa, as well as with the South African authorities, to ensure the safe release of the deacon.

In the meantime, the Church of Pentecost in Johannesburg announced a three-day fast and prayer period in order to pray for God to step in and bring the deacon who was kidnapped during last Sunday’s armed robbery incident back to safety.
