‘Peter Pan & Wendy;’ Twitter Erupts Over Black Tinker Bell

Disney is facing backlash over its decision to cast Yara Shahidi as Tinker Bell in the upcoming live-action remake of “Peter Pan & Wendy.” (watch trailer here)

Twitter users are up in arms over the casting decision, with many of them claiming that the character of Tinker Bell is integral to the original story and taking issue with the change.

Critics have accused the studio of being “too woke” by having black actors play originally white characters in some of its latest films, with one user saying it was about shock value rather than representation.

The first trailer for “Peter Pan & Wendy” was released on February 28th, showing that the Lost Boys had become more inclusive with their membership criteria.

Disney has yet to respond to the online outcry, though some people are speculating that the company may have expected the reaction. A spokesperson for Disney declined to comment, though a representative from the production company did state that the casting decision was an effort to reflect the diversity of the world we live in today.
