Black Sherif’s Biography

Black Sherif, formerly Blacko, is a Ghanaian rapper and vocalist. His real name is Mohammed Ismail Sharrif, born and raised in Konongo-Zongo, Ashanti, Ghana. At 10, he moved in with his aunt and other relatives because his parents worked overseas. Early inspirations and civilizations came from his itinerant lifestyle.

Sherif graduated junior high from Pinamang Educational Complex after attending Konongo Zongo Islamic Basic School. He studied music and dance at Kumasi Academy after finishing junior high school.

He attended the University of Ghana in October 2022 after graduating from UPSA.

Music Career

Black Sherif debuted in 2019 with “Cry for Me” on YouTube. His debut single, “Money,” and music video were released on May 25, 2020.

His “First Sermon” single in May 2021 expanded his audience.

In July 2021, Burna Boy remixed “Second Sermon,” the sequel to “First Sermon.” “Kwaku the Traveller,” released in March 2022, is Black Sherif’s most successful song, followed by “45” and “Soja.”

In October 2022, Sherif dropped his most anticipated debut album, “The Villain I Never Was,” made up of 14 songs.

He performed at the 25th Music of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards at the OVO Arena in Wembley, London. He held his first event, “Mozama Disco Concert,” in Accra in December 2022.

Black Sherif has performed at the Wireless Festival in Abu Dhabi, Something In The Water Festival in Virginia Beach, and Afronation Miami.. He was features in Dreamville/Interscope Record’s soundtrack for Creed III, track “Blood, Sweat & Tears,” which features Dreamville’s own Bas, and Nigerian producer/artiste Kel-P.

Awards

Black Sherif won Best Hip Hop at the Soundcity MVP Awards at the Eko Convention Centre in Lagos on February 20, 2023. He performed at the Palladium in Times Square on May 20.

He won 5 awards at the Ghana Music Awards 2023, namely Artiste of the Year, Best Hip Hop Song of the Year, Best Music Video, Most Popular Song of The Year, and Best Collaboration of the Year.
