PSG Sack Coach Christophe Galtier Despite Winning Ligue 1 Title

Despite winning the Ligue 1 championship, Christophe Galtier has been fired by Paris Saint-Germain, according to sources.

Galtier guided PSG to the 2022–23 league championship, but the French club was eliminated by Bayern Munich in the round of 16 of the Champions League.

Galtier was informed by PSG sporting director Luis Campos on Tuesday that he had been fired by the team, and that former Bayern manager Julian Nagelsmann was expected to continue negotiations with the organization.

According to the sources, the club also spoke with Luis Enrique, the former coach of Spain and Barcelona, but they now have Nagelsmann as their priority objective because the German coach is eager for Thierry Henry to work with him as his assistant.

When Galtier was hired on a two-year contract this summer, he became PSG’s sixth permanent manager since their Qatari takeover in 2011.

Despite finishing one point ahead of Lens in second place in the Ligue 1 under the Frenchman, the French giants stagnated in the European arena as he struggled to get the best performance from superstar players like Lionel Messi and Neymar. In April, Galtier was accused of racism related to his tenure as Nice’s manager.

As PSG’s most recent season came to an end with a whimper, club executives gradually lost faith in Galtier.

Nagelsmann, a former manager of Bayern Munich, is the front-runner to replace Galtier in the Parc des Princes dugout, according to Foot Mercato, who also claims that the German is in advanced negotiations with PSG executives.

Thierry Henry, a former player for Arsenal, may join Nagelsmann at the club after he was brutally fired by Bayern in March. Henry was previously paired with Roberto Martinez for the Belgian national team, making him the ideal candidate in the eyes of the Qatari ownership to help Nagelsmann.
