Reekado Banks Opens Up On Exit From Don Jazzy’s Marvin Records

Singer Reekado Banks has addressed the rumours surrounding his departure from Mavin Records and his relationship with CEO Don Jazzy.

Contrary to popular belief, Banks clarified that there was no issue between them and that he left the record label on good terms because his contract had expired and he wanted to explore new opportunities.

During a conversation with controversial media personality Daddy Freeze, Banks shed light on their relationship and stated that there was no animosity.

He acknowledged Don Jazzy’s role in his success, mentioning that the label boss had played a significant part in his journey from obscurity to where he is today. Banks also revealed that when he expressed his desire to leave after his contract ended, Don Jazzy gave him his blessings.

Reekado Banks said; “That man took me from absolutely nothing, I wonder why anybody would think there is a problem anywhere, there never was. Everything was amicable, the end of the contract came, I wanted to leave and he gave me his blessings. I really do not understand why anybody would think otherwise. I feel like it’s just a tradition in the Nigerian record label business for artistes to break out angrily from their record label and I feel like that is being imposed on my relationship.”

Reekado Banks secured an endorsement deal with Nigerian telecommunications company Globacom in July 2015.

After five years with Mavins Records, he revealed his departure on December 7, 2018, along with the establishment of his independent label, Banks Music.

In September 2019, Vanguard newspaper disclosed that Reekado Banks parted ways with his elder brother, Temi Solomon, as his manager. In 2021, he dropped the single “Ozumba Mbadiwe”.

Following the inauguration of Virgin Music Nigeria on September 1, 2023, Kimani Moore announced that the unit will oversee Reekado Banks, as well as Darkoo distributions.
