Rihanna Sets New Record For The Most-Viewed, Most-Streamed Super Bowl Halftime Show Ever

Rihanna’s halftime performance becomes the most-viewed show in history.

Rihanna’s halftime performance attracted a total of 118.7 million viewers. Monday evening, Fox Sports’ public relations account confirmed the news via a tweet.

Presentation of #SuperBowlLVII scores 113 million viewers.

  • Ranks as third most-watched TV show EVER
  • Most-watched #SuperBowl in SIX years
  • Most-streamed #SuperBowl EVER
  • Most-streamed event in @FOXSports history

Rihanna attracted more viewers than the Super Bowl game itself, despite the fact that it was the most viewers the game has had in six years. The game attracted 113 million viewers, which was only 5.7 million fewer than Rihanna’s performance.

It is now the second-most-watched Super Bowl game in history, just behind the 2015 edition, which garnered 114.4 million people. Rihanna’s performance in 2015 stunned Katy Perry’s halftime show, which had 114.4 million viewers.

Past Records

Katy Perry held the record for the most-viewed show for eight years until Rihanna surpassed her. Lady Gaga’s performance in 2017 was followed by Perry’s with 117.5 million viewers. Her halftime act earned her six Emmy nominations that year, of which she won one.

Coldplay, Beyoncé, and Bruno Mars shared the stage with Gaga in 2016, attracting 115.5 million viewers. This was Beyoncé’s second Super Bowl performance; she was not originally scheduled to appear. However, Coldplay’s Chris Martin had convinced both her and Bruno Mars to join him on stage.

Bruno Mars surpassed himself in 2016, since his solo Super Bowl performance in 2014 ranked just behind the trio in terms of viewership. That year, his solo show garnered a total of 112 million viewers. In addition, he invited the Red Hot Chili Peppers to appear on the show.

Finally, Madonna’s Super Bowl halftime concert now ranks fifth in terms of viewership. Her performance in 2012 garnered 112.4 million viewers. Numerous special guests, including LMFAO, Nicki Minaj, CeeLo Green, and M.I.A., were invited by the vocalist. She worked with Cirque du Soleil on her 12-minute performance.
