Sam George Gives Bawumia A New Name Amidst Economic Woes

During a recent interview on Berla Mundi’s Day Show, Sam George, the Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, expressed his concerns regarding the current state of the economy and directed his criticism towards Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

In his remarks, Sam George referred to Dr. Bawumia as a “chew-and-pour economist ” while contending that Bawumia excessively depends on economic theories and memorization, thereby lacking a thorough comprehension of Ghana’s actual economic dynamics.

Sam George leveled an accusation against the Vice President, asserting that he merely repeats economic theories without showcasing a practical comprehension of Ghana’s economic obstacles. Voicing his discontent with Bawumia’s performance as the leader of the Economic Management Team, George underscored the necessity for a more proactive and practical approach to economic management.

He stated, “Individuals like Bawumia don’t grasp that our economy isn’t solely textbook-based; all they do is chew and pour. Bawumia is a chew-and-pour economist.”

“When you’re going in circles, you might think you’re making progress, but ultimately, you come back to the same point,” he remarked.

George further asserted that the current government has undermined the economic advancements made during the tenure of former President John Dramani Mahama.

He contended that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lacks a substantial record of achievements to warrant another term in office. As evidence, he pointed to alleged instances of targeted violence against supporters of Alan Kyeremanteng, highlighting the party’s reliance on non-policy-based tactics.

Sam George was in the news recently when he expressed dissatisfaction with the BBC’s coverage of the Occupy Bank of Ghana (BoG) protest that took place in Accra on Tuesday, October 7, 2023. While acknowledging the British media outlet’s commendable efforts in bringing attention to the demonstrations, he took issues with the inaccurate figure cited as the basis for the protest.

In response, the vocal legislator has taken to Twitter to request that the BBC rectify the error or remove their report on the matter. Dear @BBCAfrica , I do not intend to even debate if it was hundreds or thousands but should you not check your facts a bit better? GHS60 billion is actually US$5.13 billion not what you have quoted. Kindly pull down the post or correct it. Thanks. 🦁🇬🇭
