Sammy Gyamfi Accuses NPP, Government Of Buying Votes Ahead Of Assin North By-Election

Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has accused the NPP government of vote-buying ahead of the by-election in Assin North, which is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, June 27, 2023.

He claims the government is using fertiliser and knapsack sprayers purchased with taxpayer money to try to buy votes in the Assin North constituency.

Sammy Gyamfi stated that shipment was en route to Ningo, Gangan, Ayittey, and other NDC strongholds in the constituency.

He said that prominent NPP members like Stephen Ntim (national chairman) and Justin Kodua (general secretary) are in charge of the group. Mr. Gyamfi produced evidence that the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia/NPP government is misusing public resources to fund electoral campaigns.

In an unanimous verdict, the Supreme Court ruled that James Gyakye Quayson’s membership in Parliament should be revoked. The election of Gyakye Quayson as Member of Parliament for Assin North was ruled unlawful on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, because he held dual citizenship at the time he applied to run in the 2020 elections.

After the Cape Coast High Court rejected Michael Ankomah Nimfa’s victory as the MP for Assin North in July 2021, Assin Bereku resident Michael Ankomah Nimfa took Quayson to court to prevent him from continuing to act in that capacity.
