Saturday’s Power Outage Caused By Bushfire Under High Voltage Lines In Western Region – GRIDCo

The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), says the power outages experienced in some regions of Ghana on Saturday was due to a system disturbance.

In a statement on Saturday, January 14, 2023, GRIDCo said the outage was traced to a fire incident underneath its high voltage cables in Tarkwa in the Western Region.

“A systems disturbance occurred at 11:57 a.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2023″GRIDCo said.

The regions that experienced the power outages included Greater Accra, Central, Oti, Western, Volta, and Ashanti.

“The outage occurred after GRIDCo’s 330kV Aboadze-Anwomaso line tripped, followed by a number of lines in the western corridor of the grid, triggering a system disturbance that caused all thermal plants and Bui generators and customer loads to trip.”

GRIDCo, says efforts were being made to restore power to all affected locations. It apologized for the disruption in service.

Meanwhile, many of the affected areas have had their power restored.
