#SaveGhanaFootball Demo: Organisers Put Kumasi Edition On Hold As GFA Calls For Truce

The organisers of the #SaveGhanaFootball protest have decided to suspend the Kumasi edition of the demonstration, which was originally scheduled for February 23, 2034.

This decision comes in response to an invitation for open dialogue by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) following the successful Accra edition held last week.

In a statement dated Tuesday, February 20, 2024, the conveners of the Save Ghana Football movement announced their intention to delay the Kumasi protest. They cited positive discussions with the Parliament of Ghana and other relevant bodies responsible for football’s development as the reason for this decision.

“While last week’s demonstration marked the beginning of our efforts to draw attention to the need for reforms in football administration, we believe it is crucial to engage in dialogue following overtures from the GFA and the Ministry for Youth and Sports,” the statement read.

During the Accra protest, led by a group of prominent sports journalists, a petition containing 15 key demands was presented to Parliament, the ministry, and the GFA.

The group stressed the urgent need for reform to revive Ghanaian football and restore it to its former glory.

“While we emphasize the importance of engagement with our demands, the decision to postpone the Kumasi protest does not signal the end of our campaign,” the statement concluded, indicating that discussions will continue as they seek meaningful change within Ghanaian football.
