See The New Post Given To Ofori-Atta By Akufo-Addo After Sacking Him As Finance Minister

Following his removal from the position of Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta is set to assume new roles as appointed by President Akufo-Addo.

Ofori-Atta will serve as the Senior Presidential Advisor on the economy and additionally, he will take on the responsibility of being the President’s Special Envoy on international investment and the capital markets.

These appointments were revealed by sources within the Office of the President, as reported by Asaase News.

Alongside Ofori-Atta, another former minister, Kwaku Afriyie, who previously held the portfolio of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, is expected to join the president’s advisory team. Afriyie is slated to be appointed as President Akufo-Addo’s Special Envoy on climate-related matters.

The reshuffle comes after Ofori-Atta’s seven-year tenure as Finance Minister, making him the longest-serving finance minister in Ghana’s Fourth Republic.

Mohammed Amin Adam, the current Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance, has assumed the role of Minister for Finance following Ofori-Atta’s departure.

Despite calls for reshuffling, President Akufo-Addo has consistently defended the performance of his appointees, insisting on their excellent performance.

However the president on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, announced changes to his government by sacking some ministers, reassigning some and appointing new ministers.

Despite some ministers maintaining their portfolios, key members of the president’s cabinet, including the minister for finance, Ken Ofori-Atta suffered casualties in the reshuffle.
