Ghanaian politician Ama Busia, former First Vice Chairperson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is dead.
She died on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, after a brief illness. Dr. Obeng Busia, Ama Busia’s son, confirmed her passing at the Nyaho Medical Centre in the early hours of Tuesday, according to a report by Asaaseradio.com.
At the time of her death, Ama Busia was 87 years old and remained a strong and influential figure within the NPP until her final moments. Ama Busia, a Ghanaian politician and former Council of State member, is renowned for her contributions to the political landscape. Notably, she is the sister of the esteemed Kofi Abrefa Busia, who served as the prime minister of Ghana.
During her formative years, Ama Busia received her primary education at Wenchi Methodist School and Methodist Middle Girls’ School in Kumasi. She then pursued her passion for education by attending the Komenda Training College, where she honed her skills as a teacher.
In 1959, both Ama Busia and her brother, Kofi Abrefa Busia, sought refuge in London. It was during this time that she furthered her knowledge in institutional management and catering at the prestigious Regent Street Polytechnic. This experience undoubtedly shaped her understanding of governance and administration.
