Sonnie Badu’s ‘Fake’ Injury: Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo Tackles Ghanaians

Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo criticized some Ghanaians who are alleging that Sonnie Badu feigned his injury to generate publicity for his recent Rhythm of Africa concert.

The entertainment pundit and regular panellist on United Showbiz disclosed that he was a member of Sonnie Badu’s team and had firsthand knowledge of what transpired behind the scenes. He further expressed understanding towards those who made such accusations, as he might have reacted similarly given the circumstances surrounding Sonnie Badu’s presentation of the situation.

Speaking on the United Showbiz show aired live on December 16, 2023, Arnold acknowledged that Ghanaians should not be held accountable, as incidents like this involving musicians are often perceived as a promotional tactic.

Arnold stressed that if such occurrences were possible in the realm of football, Sonnie Badu’s incident and his subsequent flawless performance during the event should not astonish or raise any doubts among people. He provided examples of how athletes receive similar medical attention when injured during crucial games.

“Before Sonnie was about to start his show, people said he had faked his injury and that before the event, he had crutches and at the event, he put away the crutches and then after, went back for it. He is fake, his injury is fake and he only wants hype. I don’t begrudge all those who said that. Maybe if I was on the other side, probably, I would say that it’s true because a couple of days to your event, like a week, you claim you have injury, you’ve had surgery and you are using crutches.”

“Probably, it’s a stunt. And I will say that because in Ghana, more often than not, a lot of things are perceived to be stunts. Do you remember Wendy Shay had similar experience when she came here? So our mindset is such that anything that happens, the first thing we think or say is that it’s a stunt and hype. It’s fine because hype is part of the industry. But all those who said that are ignorant and that’s not an insult,” he said.

He added that when the accident occurred, Sonnie had first assured the audience that he was ready for the performance. The artist claimed that physicians had informed him that he would receive some medication to help with the pain on the day of the event.
