Stray Bullet Kills Teenager As Police Clash With Civilians At Dambai

According to an Adomonline publication, a young man named Kwaku Sey, a resident of Dambai Lakeside was reportedly killed on Sunday, May 5, during a clash between the Police and enraged youth at Dambai Town Hall, the capital of Eastern Krachi in the Oti region.

According to Francis Gesaloge Boyesah Okoro, a community resident, the Police, who were conducting a night patrol, arrived at the area to apprehend some “ghetto” youths who were allegedly using drugs.

Okoro claimed that Sey resisted arrest, leading to a chaotic situation with warning shots fired, resulting in Sey being struck by a stray bullet.

He later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Emmanuel Atali, the Assemblyman of Dambai Lakeside, confirmed the altercation between the Police and the youth, stating that he heard a gunshot around 8 pm on Sunday and discovered Sey lying in a pool of blood.

Atali promptly reported the incident to the Police station, and the body was subsequently taken to Worawora Hospital for preservation.

The incident caused panic in the community, with residents and pedestrians seeking shelter. In the heat of the moment, two motorcycles belonging to the police officers were destroyed by some of the angry youths.

Two individuals have been arrested by the Police to aid in their investigations.

However, both the Divisional and Regional Commands of the Police remained silent on the matter when approached by the Ghana News Agency for verification.
