Akua Donkor, the founder and head of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), has sparked outrage across the Ghanaian section of the social media landscape after declaring unequivocally Ghana is not in turmoil financially.
She criticized Ghanaians who demanded that the 6th March celebration be postponed due to the country’s dismal economic situation saying there’s no hardship in the country whatsoever.
According to the maverick politician, she is yet to experience any form of hardship as unanimously echoed by Ghanaians.
Akua Donkor, who was speaking to GhanaWeb on the sidelines of the 66th Independence Day celebration in Adaklu, in the Volta Region, said that the 6th of March is a significant anniversary for Ghana and should be honoured as such.
“I don’t agree with those calling for the cancellation of the Independence Day Celebration. The 6th March celebration has become a tradition. It is what we use to remember our founding fathers like Kwame Nkrumah. It helps us educate the younger generation on our history.
“When I become president, we will continue celebrating the 6th March. There is no hardship in the country, as people are saying. So, we have to celebrate Independence Day,” she said in the Twi dialect.
The GFP leader continued by saying that Ghanaians ought to give God praise for the country’s peace and fertile territory.
