This Is A Threat To National Security – NTC On 6000 Teachers Who Failed Licensure Exams

Dennis Osei-Owusu, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the National Teaching Council (NTC), has described the high failure rate of teachers who took the 2023 Teacher Licensure Examination as a threat to national security.

According to him, the high percentage of failure among teachers is deeply troubling for the entire nation.

In an interview with Citi FM in Accra, he emphasised the importance of addressing the issue.

“This is a national security threat that we need to pay attention to as a country. Some of these teachers have written for the ninth time and others for the second time.”

He urged his fellow Ghanaians to take note of the alarming high rate of failure, explaining that these educators would be responsible for training the nation’s next generation in the future, so it would be unwise to send someone who can’t even spell his or her own name.

Only 1,277 of the 7,728 would-be teachers who took this year’s licence exam in May were qualified. A total of 6,481 teachers got failing grades. This percentage shows the number of individuals who retook the exam to become certified teachers.

All of the applicants had taken the test many times, with some taking it as many as nine times, according to Dr. Christian Addai-Poku, Registrar of the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE).

He said that people who were affected might retake the examination again later in the year before the exam will be changed. He stated that people with a first degree are likely to fail on their final attempt and want to retake the exam.
