Following a 2-1 loss to Brighton over the weekend, Todd Boehly yelled at the players in the locker room.
Boehly reportedly referred to their performance this season as “embarrassing” according to The Telegraph. At Stamford Bridge last Saturday, Brighton outplayed the Blues. Since Frank Lampard was appointed interim manager, the team has lost three straight games.
At the final whistle, a number of home supporters shouted down Boehly in the directors’ box in the harshest possible terms.
The businessman made the decision to address the players in the locker room after the game, together with co-owner Behdad Eghbali and Hansjorg Wyss.
Boehly entered the stage after waiting for Lampard to finish his post-game address and criticized the team for their “embarrassing” performances.
According to The Telegraph, he also reminded the footballers that he had spent £600 million to build a winning side and they had not lived up to expectations.
Goal also reports that Boehly also called Chelsea’s season “embarrassing” in a post-Premier League match interview with his team following their 12th loss of the year.
Since taking over, the American has made significant investments in the team, but so far, there hasn’t been much of a payoff on the field.
