Breaking News: UK Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab Resigns Over Bullying Allegations

Independent investigations into official allegations of bullying led to Dominic Raab’s resignation on Friday, April 21, 2023, as British deputy prime minister and justice minister.

There had been several reports of Raab’s unprofessional actions from his Westminster colleagues. After receiving allegations regarding Mr. Raab’s conduct as a minister, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak instituted a five-month investigation led by a prominent lawyer.

Mr. Raab has been accused of bullying throughout his service as justice minister and foreign secretary under Boris Johnson and as Brexit secretary under Theresa May.

In a tweet to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Raab said that the investigation had set a bad example. Despite this, Raab said he would continue to support the administration.

I called for the inquiry and undertook to resign, if it made any finding of bullying whatsoever. I believe it is important to keep my word… In setting the threshold for bullying so low, this inquiry has set a dangerous precedent. It will encourage spurious complaints against Ministers, and have a chilling effect on those driving change on behalf of your government – and ultimately the British people.”

Following Mr. Raab’s departure, the prime minister will need to fill the position of justice secretary. Mr. Raab was a strong backer of Mr. Sunak during the Conservative leadership campaign last year.

How Long Has Dominic Raab Been Deputy Prime Minister

Former British politician Dominic Rennie Raab served as deputy prime minister, justice secretary, and lord chancellor for the country from October 2022 to April 2023. He had previously held these positions from September 2021 to September 2022.
