We Need Support- Fella Makafui On How Movie Industry Can Be Revived
Fella Makafui has discussed with Andy Dosty in a recent interview on Hitz FM the potential revival of local movies amidst declining profits.
She emphasized the importance of Ghanaian support for the industry, noting that increased public interest in local films can lead to financial success and the ability for producers to fund future projects.
“I feel it all boils down to the support. Because if I invite you to my movie and at the of the day we have to premier it and people come in their numbers, we are going to get our returns to produce another movie,” she said,
Fella Makafui added, “I think that’s the only thing we will urge Ghanaians to channel more energy into – support the craft.”
The actress emphasized the importance of investors in the industry, such as corporate Ghana, who can provide support through product placement and other means.
Fella Makafui, despite the obstacles faced by movie producers, maintains a positive outlook on the industry’s potential for expansion.
She pointed to her recent production projects, which included receiving assistance from musician Kuami Eugene free of charge, as a sign of progress.
“I am seeing changes in the industry. Last year when I co-produced Serwaa, the series with Farmhouse, it was massive. Even for this movie, I am so grateful, the support is so massive,” she said.
