Why A Belgian As Spokesperson For New Force-Cheddar Explains

Nana Kwame Bediako (Cheddar), the leader of the New Force Movement, has shared the difficulties he encountered while searching for a Ghanaian representative for the group.

Despite reaching out to numerous Ghanaians, none were willing to openly represent the New Force Movement. Instead, they preferred to remain anonymous.

Mr. Bediako explained in an interview with TV3 on January 11 that the reluctance of Ghanaians to step forward openly led him to choose Ms. Shalimar Abbuisi, a Belgian national, as the spokesperson for the New Force.

Initially, some Ghanaians expressed interest but eventually withdrew, possibly due to fear. Bediako speculated that these individuals might have been apprehensive due to the perception that he lacked power.

Regarding Ms. Abbiusi, who was repatriated by the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), Bediako stated that she had been in Ghana for over three years, working with Accra-based GH One television and also as a model, without encountering any immigration issues until she became the spokesperson for the New Force Movement.

He clarified that he met Ms Abbiusi through the Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, during a donation to flood victims in Mepe in the Volta Region.

Shalimar Abbiusi was arrested by the Ghana Immigration Service over her involvement with the New Force.

The arrest was made after the Head of the National Enforcement Section at the Immigration Headquarters invited Abbiusi to address concerns regarding her immigration status.

Further investigations revealed that Abbiusi first arrived in Ghana on September 4, 2017, through the Kotoka International Airport and had been a frequent visitor until 2018, when she claimed to be a student at the Ghana Christian University College.

However, the college confirmed that Abbiusi had never been a student, and the documents she presented to support her application for a residence permit were found to be forged. As a result, Abbiusi now faces charges related to immigration offences and has been brought before the court for remand into immigration custody.

Ms. Abbiusi refuted the accusation against her and was granted bail by the Kaneshie District Court. However, she has not been released from custody yet. Investigators also searched her home.

She was later repatriated after the court proceedings.
