Woman Who Wrote Book On Grief Following Husband’s Death Accused Of His Murder

According to court documents, a woman who penned a children’s book on overcoming sadness after her husband’s death has been charged with murder.

According to court documents, Kouri Richins was detained on May 8 in Summit County on suspicion of three counts of drug possession with the intent to distribute as well as aggravated homicide. A day before Richins’ spouse, Eric Richins, passed away “unexpectedly,” according to his obituary, the alleged murder took place on March 3, 2022. He had three little sons with Kouri over their nine years of marriage.

Court records that Nexstar’s KTVX was able to get a state that Eric was discovered dead on March 4, 2022, in the wee hours by his bed. According to Kouri, she made him a drink and carried it to their room, where he allegedly consumed it. Kouri claimed that shortly later while putting one of her kids to bed, she passed out. She informed authorities that she believed Eric was cold to the touch when she woke up at three in the morning and dialled 911.

Investigators stated the phone’s data showed it was locked and unlocked numerous times, and there was movement on the phone, despite the woman’s assertion that she left her phone plugged in inside her bedroom while she was with her child.

Several other communications were sent and received during this time frame, but they were all erased. After an autopsy, it was discovered that Eric had overdosed on illegal fentanyl. He had eaten nearly five times the deadly dose of fentanyl, according to the medical examiner. After Eric’s autopsy, according to the authorities, they secured a search warrant and seized much of Kouri’s equipment. Investigators claimed discovered Kouri had made contact with someone to obtain prescription painkillers while looking through them.

Two weeks later, Kouri reached out to the same friend and asked if she could get something stronger — “some of the Michael Jackson stuff,” Kouri stated. She specifically asked her friend for fentanyl. The friend allegedly gave Kouri 15 to 20 fentanyl pills.

After a Valentine’s Day meal, court docs say Eric told a friend he became ill and thought Kouri was trying to poison him. Two weeks later, Kouri allegedly asked for more fentanyl pills.

Eric was found dead six days later, according to court documents.

Kouri said she wrote the book because she needed a distraction and a way to channel her family’s feelings.
