Mahama Cuts Sod For New Jakpa Palace In Damongo

Former President John Dramani Mahama participated in the groundbreaking ceremony alongside Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I for the new palace construction for the Gonja overlord.

Mr. Mahama, the financier of the project, has given his assurance to the people that it will be completed by October of this year.

During his speech, Mr Mahama emphasized the deliberate design of the new palace, which aims to showcase Sahelian architecture and pay homage to the Gonja’s roots in the Mande region near Mali.

“So, if you look at the architecture, you will think you are in Timbuktu or Songhai, tracing the history of the Gonja people “, he said.

In attendance at the event were a diverse group of paramount chiefs from the Guan and Gonja tribes, along with executives from the Guan Congress, executives from the Gonjaland Youth Association, members and supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and the people of Damango.

Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, the Overlord of Gonja, expressed gratitude to Mr. Mahama for his unwavering dedication to the development of the Gonja Kingdom and offered prayers for his success.

The Overlord also stressed the significance of the new palace in preserving the Gonja heritage and the legacy of Sumaila Ndewura Jakpa, the founder of the Gonja Kingdom.

He extended his good wishes to the former president and leader of the NDC in his political endeavours and cautioned against any negative remarks about his contributions to the Gonja Kingdom.
