You Don’t Need to Move to Lagos or Abuja to Succeed – Patience Ozokwor To Aspiring Actors
Emerging thespians can succeed in Nigeria’s film industry without moving to Abuja or Lagos, according to Nollywood great Patience Ozokor.
She shared this priceless piece of advice during a candlelight parade honouring Madam Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, the late CEO and founder of the Africa Movie Academy Awards, on Tuesday night in Enugu.
Several actors and actresses began their careers in Enugu, but when they became famous, they moved to Abuja and Lagos and forgot their roots, Ozokwor said while encouraging aspiring actors and actresses.
Using herself as an example, she said; “For me, I said I am going to stay in Enugu, inside the village and when I go to Lagos, I tell them I am a village woman.
“I stay at Ngwo in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State and God has shown me that you can become a star from anywhere. You don’t need to be in Lagos or Abuja”.
The veteran actress further said; “If you are good enough, they will call you even from America.”
She was an announcer and broadcaster on Radio Nigeria before she became an actress. She rose to fame from her role in the 1999 movie titled Authority and her first TV drama won a soap opera titled Someone Cares on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).
Since her rise to fame, she proceeded to act in over 100 movies. She recently starred in the Mo Abudu Netflix movie Chief Daddy (2018) and Chief Daddy 2: Going for Broke (2022) as Madam Pat.
