A Plus has criticized COP George Alex Mensah following his defeat in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries held on January 28.
Mensah, a former top police officer (Commissioner of Police), had contested to become the parliamentary candidate for Bekwai in the Ashanti Region but was defeated by lawyer Ralph Opoku Adusei.
Given the controversies surrounding Mensah’s departure from the police force and his clash with the Inspector General of Police (IGP), George Akuffo Dampare, before announcing his political aspirations aligned with the ruling government, many political observers were curious to see how the elections in his area would unfold.
Immediately after his loss, political commentator and anti-corruption campaigner A Plus candidly told Mensah that he lost the election due to his negative mindset.
In response to the election results, A Plus stated that the former police chief possesses a negative mindset and that such individuals are not rewarded by God.
“W’dwen bɔne nti, Onyame ntie wo sufrɛ. Dr Dampare is the best IGP ever! Ɔnabo wawi!!! Kɔnkɔnsani bɛ brɛ! Wo! Yɛ de Bible, Antoa, Ɔboɔ Kyerewaa, ne wiase atumfoɔ nyinaa abɔ wo dua! Nipa bɔne ni!! Wo ti kakraa sɛ everywhere. Tuɛ!!!”
During their dispute, George Alex Mensah restated his previous allegations that Dampare was responsible for leaking his audio tape.
In the recorded conversation, COP Mensah can be heard advocating for the highest position in the police force while accusing IGP Dampare of mishandling the Police Service.
Mensah claimed that the IGP leaked the tape out of concern that he would be replaced by Mensah.
Speaking on Angel FM, COP Mensah said, “Someone realised he was not doing his job well and that he was going to get sacked, and knowing the person likely to succeed him after he is sacked, he will set him up.
“About a week to his impending sacking, he edited the setup and spread it through the media, forcing people’s hand. That’s what happened,” he asserted.
COP Mensah leveled even more grave accusations against the IGP during his appearance before a parliamentary committee tasked with probing the leaked tape.
COP Mensah maintains that all the allegations he previously made against the IGP are indeed factual. Additionally, he has now accused the IGP of tampering with the original tape to portray him (COP Mensah) in a negative light.
After retiring from the Police Service, COP Alex George Mensah is now actively seeking the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary nomination for the Bekwai Constituency.
