2Pac Had Alopecia- Jada Pinkett Smith Shares Details

Jada Pinkett Smith has made the revelation that her ‘soulmate’, 2Pac Shakur, was grappling with a concealed illness that he was hesitant to disclose to anyone.

Smith, who had previously disclosed her own experience with alopecia in 2018, has now disclosed that she and Shakur shared the autoimmune disease that causes unpredictable hair loss.

“I don’t think Tupac ever talked about the alopecia he suffered from,” she told People. The actress continued, illuminating Pac’s mental suffering by discussing what she claimed to be his secret struggle with alopecia. She asserted that the disorder began in 1991 after Pac was allegedly assaulted by the Oakland Police Department after being pulled over for jaywalking. Following the event, the rapper launched a $10 million civil complaint, and it is said that he was awarded a $42,000 settlement.

“After he was in Northern California with the police officers that beat him up, he started losing his hair. And his alopecia patterns were far more extreme than mine,” said Smith.

According to Smith, the late legendary lyricist, who was tragically murdered in 1996, chose to keep his alopecia under wraps.

“I don’t think Pac ever talked about his alopecia, but he also looked really good with a bald head. But that was during a time and during an era that you wouldn’t — he just wouldn’t talk about it,’” added Smith.

Meanwhile, the actress is adamant that “if [Shakur] were alive today, he would” speak openly about his condition.

According to the Mayo Clinic, alopecia can be the result of heredity, hormonal changes, medical conditions, or a normal part of ageing. Anyone can lose hair on their head, but it’s more common in men.

Baldness typically refers to excessive hair loss from your scalp. Hereditary hair loss with age is the most common cause of baldness. Some people prefer to let their hair loss run its course, untreated and unhidden. Others may cover it up with hairstyles, makeup, hats, or scarves, and still others choose one of the treatments available to prevent further hair loss or restore growth.

Before pursuing hair loss treatment, talk with your doctor about the cause of your hair loss and treatment options.
