Accra To London: How Abedi Pele’s Name ‘Saved’ 12 Ghanaian Expeditioners

In another sequel to the exhilarating story of the 12 philanthropists and tourism enthusiasts who are driving from the Ghanaian capital Accra to London, the expeditioners have revealed how Abedi Pele’s name ‘saved the day’ for them when they reached Morocco.

The group spoke to Peace FM’s Kwame Sefa Kayi aka Chairman General to update Ghanaians about their exciting trip wherein they revealed how the name of three times African Player of the Year made their journey heartwarming when they got to Morocco.

The group known as Wanderlust Ghana revealed in an interview how Abedi Pele’s name got a Moroccan policeman to give them a presidential escort.

“Sincerely Chairman-General, it’s not as it’s always reported in all fairness. Apart from our experience on the Mauritania border, all other countries have been receptive and nice but for border crossing and petty extortion from immigration officials, generally, it’s been a nice experience. People are happy” a member of the expedition told Kwame Sefa-Kai.

”For instance, from Rabat to Tanger Med, a police dispatch rider saw us and asked about our nationality. When we said Ghana, he bawled: Abedi Pele? follow us, follow us.

”He put on his siren-like the presidential convoy of Akufo-Addo [Ghana president]. He [the policeman] was just happy to see a Ghana plate.

”Sincerely, football is amazing. Everywhere we’ve gone and mentioned Ghana, they mention Abedi Pele, [Michael] Essien and Asamoah [Gyan].

”We were with Senegalese football [El Hajj] Diouf at our hotel in Senegal and he even invited us to lunch the following day but unfortunately, we were busy with the cars. It’s just because of football and Ghana. ”

The group expects to be in London by Sunday, 6 August or Monday, 7 August 2023.

Having started the journey with twelve members, the team is left with nine members, as two ended their trip in Morocco and another in Senegal for work.

The team will now travel through to Valencia, then to Monaco in France through to Lucomo, to Switzerland, then to Germany, and then the Netherlands where they will rest before continuing to London.
