Aerosmith Announces Farewell Tour Starting In September After 50 Years Of Being Together

Having been together for over 50 years, evergreen band Aerosmith has announced they are splitting for good and have therefore arranged a series of tours as a parting gift for their fans.

The dates for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame group’s farewell “Peace Out” tour, which begins on September 2 in Philadelphia, were revealed on Monday. The 40-show tour, which includes a stop in Boston on New Year’s Eve, will come to a finish in Montreal on January 26.

According to Perry, the band, which also includes guitarist Brad Whitford, bassist Tom Hamilton, drummer Joey Kramer, and frontman Steven Tyler, learned from the production and staging of their most recent Las Vegas residency gigs. With every founding member of the band older than 70, Perry thinks it’s time to say goodbye. Tyler, who is 75, is the group’s senior.

“It’s kind of a chance to celebrate the 50 years we’ve been out here,” Perry said. “You never know how much longer everybody’s going to be healthy to do this. … It’s been a while since we’ve actually done a real tour. We did that run in Vegas, which was great. It was fun, but (we’re) kind of anxious to get back on the road.“

Tyler and Perry said the band is looking forward to digging into their lengthy catalog of the group’s rock classics including “Crazy,” “Janie’s Got a Gun” and “Livin’ on the Edge.”

“We’re opening up Pandora’s Box one last time to present our fans with the Peace Out tour,” Tyler said in a statement to the AP. His “Pandora’s Box” reference calls out Aerosmith’s 1991 three-disc compilation album that covered the band’s output from the 1970s to the early 1980s.

“Be there or beware as we bring all the toys out of the attic. Get ready,” Tyler added.

The band said Kramer decided to not take part in the current dates on the upcoming tour. He’s still a part of the group, but the drummer has been on leave to “focus his attention on his family and health” since their Vegas residency last year. Drummer John Douglas will continue to play in his place.

When was Aerosmith formed?

Founded in Boston in 1970, Aerosmith was influenced by British Rock bands like The Rolling Stones.

The group produced an energetic live performance and established a Hard Rock style, which resulted in a recording deal with Columbia Records in 1972. In 1973, the trio issued its self-titled first album. Th

e first single from the album, “Dream On” was released, and it eventually became popular. With the release of their subsequent albums, the band’s fame would quickly soar.

Toys in the Attic, Aerosmith’s third album from 1975, is still one of the band’s best-selling studio albums in the country with over 8 million copies sold. “Sweet Emotion” and “Walk This Way,” two of the group’s most recognizable songs, are included. In 1976, Rocks, Aerosmith’s fourth album, was released.
