Darcy Adanna Esemon, one of the women who made sexual assault allegations against former NL Cy Young winner Trevor Bauer, has now been charged with multiple counts of fraud.
A Grand Jury in Maricopa County, Arizona, has accused Esemon of obtaining benefits from Bauer and another individual named Marco Bresciani through fraudulent means.
This offense is classified as a Class 2 felony. Additionally, Esemon is facing Class 4 felony charges for extorting Bresciani. In 2023, Esemon filed a lawsuit against Bauer, accusing him of raping her in December 2020.
She claimed to be pregnant and demanded $3.6 million from Bauer to cover an abortion and emotional distress. In response, Bauer countersued, asserting that their sexual relationship was consensual. He also stated that he had already paid Esemon $8,761 for abortion-related expenses. Now, Bauer is asserting that Esemon was never actually pregnant.
“Her M.O. is clear: Lie to men to get their money,” Bauer said in a reaction video he posted Tuesday. “Extort them if she must. When they refuse to pay, stop paying, or stop giving her what she wants, go to the police, accuse them of sexual assault, and file a civil suit against them to retaliate.”
Esemon may potentially face a sentence ranging from 3 to 12.5 years in jail for defrauding Bauer and Bresciani. Additionally, there is another charge related solely to Bresciani, which could result in a sentence of 1 to 3.75 years.
In October, Bauer reached a settlement with one of his accusers, as well as Bauer himself, without any admission of guilt or financial transactions. There are two other women who have accused Bauer of sexual assault.
Since 2021, the 33-year-old right-hander has not played in a Major League Baseball (MLB) game. He had recently signed a lucrative three-year, $102 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
However, Bauer was suspended for the second half of the 2021 season and the entirety of 2022 due to the public accusations. Although he was reinstated in 2023, the Dodgers decided to sever ties with him, leading Bauer to play in Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball.
Despite making appearances against MLB teams during Spring Training, Bauer has yet to receive an offer from any major league club this season. He recently made his debut in the Mexican League, where he allowed four earned runs and seven hits in 3.2 innings.
