Afia Schwarzenegger Apologises To The Court For Contemptuous Comments In Wontumi Case

Controversial socialite, Afia Schwarzenegger, had claimed on UTV’s United Showbiz that she had been sexually involved with the New Patriotic Party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Antwi Bosiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

Angered by her outbursts, Chairman Wontumi sued Afia Schwarzenegger for defamation on the basis that Afia had lied.

Wontumi is being led through the legal process by prominent Ghanaian lawyer, Maurice Ampaw.

While the substantive case was ongoing, Afia was cited for contempt by Wontumi’s legal team for running public commentary on a TV programme about the case court before the court.

She was thus sentenced to 10 days in prison by the court for the contempt charge, but was not present when the judgment was pronounced, forcing the court to issue a bench warrant for her arrest.

On Tuesday December 20, 2022, during the court proceedings, Adrian Duke Amaning, Afia’s lawyer, stressed that her client had shown remorse for which reason she came to the court with a written apology.

He further sought permission of the court to have her client publish the apology.

“I, Valentina Nana Agyeiwaa, aka Queen Afia Schwarzenegger, do express my sincerest and deepest apologies to the Honourable Court and to the entire public for my comments on the United Showbiz program on UTV,” she wrote.

I, against my better judgement, was a panellist on the aforementioned show which discussed among other things, a matter that was before the court. Whilst it was never my intention to delve into the substance of the matter, have come to the realisation, though belatedly that my conduct and comments, should have been measured by caution and restraint.

The discussion on the show had the tendency of bringing the authority of the Court into question and upon sober reflection, unreservedly apologise for my actions and conduct and any role I played in the events that ensued on that programme.

I will always from hereon endeavour, to conduct my affairs in a manner that will not cause public disaffection nor seek to undermine the Courts of our land. As said on that fateful day, I respect our courts and their authority, and urge my fans, sympathizers, and followers to learn the right lessons from all that has transpired.

I pray that the honourable court shall accept this my sincere apology. I state once again that I believe and trust in the authority of our courts to deliver justice where it is due, and I shall continue to trust that the substantive matter will be adjudicated fairly and justly” the letter reads.

However, Maurice Ampaw, who represents Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, who cited Afia Schwarzenegger for contempt, challenged the motion and pleaded with the court to uphold the imprisonment imposed on December 1, 2022.
