Akufo-Addo And Ofori-Atta Collapsed UT Bank After I Used It To Save Them – Kofi Amoabeng

Prince Kofi Amoabeng, the former CEO of the collapsed UT Bank, has claimed that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta betrayed him after helping them.

The former banker claims he has never fully recovered from the shock of the government revoking UT Bank’s license to operate in 2017.

On the episode of Onua Maakye hosted by Captain Smart that aired on March 1, 2023, the retired military captain claimed that his bank had helped President Akufo-Addo and his cousin, Mr. Ofori-Atta, in the past, and that he now finds it puzzling that the government of these men would allow his bank to crumble.

“The very people who are in government now I’ve had the occasion to actually bail them out using the same UT and I gave them the opportunity and tried to become who they are now. The President himself (Akufo-Addo) at some point in time, UT was there to bail him out and Ken Ofori-Atta and the others, his partners and Databank, yes, UT bailed them out.

“So we’ve fed you before, so, even if you’ll collapse it, it should not be the way it was done. You can call me and tell me the situation is beyond repairs but not invading our premises with the police at 6am and hacking our signs down and I had no clue,” he said.

Both UT Bank and Heritage Bank had their licenses revoked by the Bank of Ghana in August 2017 for “solvency concerns,” as the central bank put it.

The Akufo-Addo government spent GH21 billion cleaning up the banking system after the collapse of UT and Heritage Bank, which resulted in the revocation of licenses for nine banks and more than three hundred and seventy financial companies.

The retired military officer said he has no intention of returning to the banking industry. “I’m tired so I won’t go to banking anymore. I probably wouldn’t mind being on a board and giving advice. I’m now beyond that (operating a bank)”
