Ama Governor: Famous YouTuber Finally Gets Justice As GBA Reinstates Her

In a statement exclusively sighted by Tru News Report, Ama Governor has been called to the bar by the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) a year after she was controversially sidelined from graduating from law school.

Known as Meet Elorm Ababio, Ama, a prospective lawyer scheduled to be admitted to the Ghana Bar in November 2022, was impeded from doing so by a letter from Justice Cynthia Pamela A. Addo JA, Secretary to the Ghana Legal Council.

The letter, prompted by a complaint from an anonymous individual, alleges that Ama lacks good character and is therefore ineligible to participate in the admission process. Specifically, the complaint cites a violation of Regulation 21(c) of the Legal Profession (Professional and Post-call Law Course) Regulations, 2018 L.I. 2355, which requires that a student seeking admission to the Bar demonstrate good character.

The complaint also includes a link to a YouTube video in which Ama is purported to have engaged in conduct unbecoming of a Bar applicant. Sources familiar with the situation report that the GLC has established a three-member panel to investigate the matter and that Ama’s admission to the Bar is currently on hold.

I have been directed by the Chairperson of the General Legal Council to inform you of this matter and to advise you to expect to be contacted by the Committee in due course. “You will be given a fair hearing on the complaint before a decision is arrived at,” a portion of the letter read.

After news broke out on social media, a flurry of varied reactions erupted on Twitter, as evidenced in the few ones we have shared below to corroborate this report:

In this new development, the GBA directed Ama Giverneor to be reinstated and made to graduate so she could practice her profession as a certified lawyer.

However, the association has asked her to be on good behaviour and not engage in any activity that will bring the profession into disrepute.

A letter with the requirements has been delivered to her.

Here is a full transcript of the report.

“On 1st November 2022, Council received a complaint of misconduct against one of the students alleging that the student could be seen on widely circulated videos engaging in conduct unbecoming of an applicant-in-waiting- to be called to the Bar.

The Council therefore constituted a committee to investigate the complaint and submit its report. The Committee completed its investigations and submitted a report to Council. After consideration of the report, Council decided to permit the student to complete appropriate forms for application to be called to Bar in October/November 2023 and that, Council will monitor and observe the student’s conduct during the time leading up to the submission of the application to be called to the Bar.

Council further decided that should the application to be called to the Bar be successful, the student will be required to give special undertaking to be of good behaviour and not to repeat any conduct which may bring the profession into disrepute whilst enrolled on the roll of Lawyers in Ghana. A letter was therefore written to the student to convey the decisions of Council.”.
