Anyako Water Project To Be Launched In July; Set To Solve Water Scarcity Challenge

The Municipal Chief Executive of Keta, Emmanuel Gemegah has stated that the water crisis in Anyako and the neighbouring areas will be resolved once the Anyako water project is commissioned.

The MCE claims that Anyako will benefit from the water project by having access to 60,000 litres of water per day.

“The Anyako Council of Chiefs, in collaboration with the Keta Municipal Assembly, has successfully found water for Anyako and other communities within its environs. In the quest to solve the potable water problem, several attempts have been made to get water for the people of Anyako and its environs, but all attempts proved futile,” Mr. Gemegah said.

He claimed that the water supply in the municipality relies primarily on wells, which are unhealthy for human use. There has been a renewed determination to bring clean water to the inhabitants of Anyako since a new administration took over in the district assembly.

Mr. Gemegah said that the village was able to dig a borehole to a depth of 120 metres, yielding 2,000 litres of water per hour, but that the water was too salty for human consumption.

“Despite the discovery of this large volume of water, the community was unable to use the water because of its salinity. Therefore, the need to process the water to remove the salinity and to increase the yield through the use of reverse osmosis and declinator membranes,” he added.

Mr. Emmanuel Gemegah predicted that after twenty years of trying, the area will finally have access to clean water, and that “life will return to normalcy.”

The water project has cost a total of ₵320,000 and it is hoped that Vice President Dr. Bawumia will officially launch it in July. There have been water shortages in these areas for years, so residents are overjoyed at the prospect of having a reliable water supply.
