Bawumia Becoming President Will Make Black Stars Play In World Cup Finals- Wontumi

Chairman Wontumi has once again reinforced his controversial statement persona, stating in an exclusive interview on Adom FM that the election of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the next president of Ghana in 2024 will have a negative impact on the senior national team, the Black Stars.

According to Bernard Antwi-Bosiako, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), if Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the party, is elected president, the Black Stars will make it to the finals of the World Cup.

Antwi-Bosiako attributes this belief to Dr Bawumia’s vision for sports, which has resulted in the construction of over 180 astroturfs across the country. In his view, the national team’s chances of reaching the World Cup finals will significantly improve if Dr Bawumia assumes the presidency of Ghana.

“Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is an action man. He is going to create employment for the youth. He is the brain behind NABCO, which was meant to help alleviate youth unemployment,” the outspoken politician in an exclusive interview on Adom FM.

“It’s almost like when you go to every district, there are astroturfs; when we came to power, there were only two, but now there are about 180 nationwide.

He [Bawumia] loves sports and will do everything to develop the sport, and I am very confident we will get the best World Cup under his leadership. We will reach the final of the World Cup under his leadership; he will do miracles with sports” Chairman Wontumi told show host, Kobby Stonne.

Meanwhile, Coach Chris Hughton has announced his selection for the opening two matches of the qualifiers for the highly anticipated 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In Group I of the African qualifiers, Ghana is set to face off against Madagascar and Comoros later this month. With the upcoming crucial matches in mind, Hughton has assembled a formidable 25-man roster.

Notably, Joseph Wollacott has made a triumphant return to the squad following his recovery from injury. However, Baba Rahman unfortunately did not secure a spot in the lineup.

On a positive note, Kasim Nuhu Adams has also earned his place back in the squad. Additionally, the talented trio of Daniel Amartey, Mohammed Kudus, and the Ayew brothers have all been included in the squad, further bolstering Ghana’s chances of success.
