Building Collapse At Adenta; One Person Dead, 3 Injured

According to a sad report emanating from Adenta, a suburb of Accra, a three-story building collapsed and killed one person, injuring several others.

The Ghana Fire Service Officers were spotted at the scene using shovels and axes to try and clear the debris so they could reach the individual trapped beneath the fallen building instead of using an excavator to do the job.

The NADMO officers reported that their excavator had broken down and had to use what was available to search for those buried under the debris.

All those discovered to be responsible for or involved in this disaster should be arrested and brought to justice, according to Madina’s MP, Hon. Francis-Xavier Sosu who was outraged about the incident and quickly took to Twitter to make this statement.

This disaster again reveals our vulnerability. When I got to the scene, the Fire Service Officers were using shovels and axes to attempt to remove the rubbles to rescue the person beneath the collapsed building. NADMO Officers said their Excavator had broken down.

I have also called for the arrest and prosecution of all persons found culpable and complicit in this disaster. It was also obvious that the building was suffering from structural defects leading to its collapse. Unfortunately, we are this vulnerable. Condolences to the family.
