Burna Boy And Rema Win First-Ever Billboard Afrobeats Awards

Nigerian musician Burna Boy has expanded his trophy case by winning the Best Afrobeats Act Billboard Music Award in the US.

During his acceptance speech on Sunday, he expressed his dedication to Africa and all contemporary artists coming from the continent of Africa.

“This is dedicated to Africa and every artist coming out of Africa now. You get me; this is for you, and the future is bright. You guys are going to see the vision; this is just the tip of the iceberg; you’re going to see the whole vision soon,” Burna Boy said.

Billboard has recently added an Afrobeats category, thereby acknowledging the substantial global recognition that the genre has garnered. Another Nigerian artiste, Rema, was also acknowledged at the event, receiving an award for his widely popular song “Calm Down,” which has achieved remarkable success in terms of streaming and chart performance.

Rema expressed gratitude to his fans while accepting the award for best Afrobeats song on Sunday, describing it as  “a celebration of unity and the global domination of Afrobeats”.

Burna Boy has also managed to secure four nominations for the highly anticipated 2024 Grammy Awards. Although the Grammys have offered their congratulations to Burna Boy and other artists, they have made it clear that Burna Boy is the biggest star in Afrobeats and even in Africa.

The Grammys’ recognition of Burna Boy’s outstanding talent and impact speaks volumes. With two consecutive Best Global Album nominations for his incredible albums “Twice as Tall” and “African Giant,” Burna Boy has established himself as a major player in the music industry.
