On May 6, 2023, at Westminster Abbey, Charles III and his wife Camilla were crowned as rulers of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth states.
After the passing of his mother, Elizabeth II, on September 8, 2022, Charles succeeded to the throne. During a ceremony at Westminster Abbey, the Archbishop of Canterbury put the St. Edward’s Crown on the King’s head.
King Charles III won’t be donning the crown again because it was constructed for King Charles II in the 17th century and is only worn when the monarch is crowned.
Camilla, the King’s wife, was crowned Queen after the King. The importance of service will be the primary topic of the Coronation, which started at 11:00 BST and will last for almost two hours. In the abbey, Charles was proclaimed as the “undoubted King” in the first stage of the ceremony. The congregation was then asked to show their homage and service, shouting “God Save the King”.
Yet among the music and oaths, there were moments of complete silence as each stage of the ancient ceremony finished.
