Chiana SHS: 8 Students Sacked After ‘Criticizing’ Akufo-Addo Over His Free SHS Policy

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has reportedly sacked eight students of the Chiana Senior High School in the Kassena-Nankana West District of the Upper East Region for allegedly making derogatory comments against President Akufo-Addo.

In 2022, the students in a video that went viral, were seen making comments deemed derogatory against the President and the struggling Free SHS Policy.

GES authorities at the time condemned their conduct in a statement and apologized to the President on their behalf.

But after investigating the matter, the Director General of the Ghana Education Service, Dr. Eric Nkansah, in a letter dated November 29, 2022, directed the sacking of all eight students from the school.

According to Joy News, a letter sent to the parents of one of the students explained that her conduct was “considered very undesirable and contrary to the acceptable standards of conduct generally required of any student in our Educational system in Ghana.”

The GES advised the students to use the dismissal as “a major turning point in her life to bring the desired change in her behaviour and attitude towards life.”
