Cook-A-Thon: Nigerian Chef Shatters Ghana’s Chef Faila Record As She Cooks For Over 248 Hours

Even before Ghana’s chef Failatu Abdul Razak could claim the title of Guinness World Record holder for the longest cooking marathon, Nigerian chef Beauty Obasuyi had already surpassed her achievement.

What’s even more remarkable is that Obasuyi has not only shattered Faila’s previous record of 227 hours with her own impressive 248 hours, but she is also continuing to cook to set an unbeatable benchmark, surpassing even Faila’s accomplishment.

Currently based in Canada, Obasuyi is undertaking an 18-day cooking marathon to establish a new Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual, effectively undermining the achievements of the Ghanaian chef and former musician.

Initially, Obasuyi had planned to cook for eight straight days, but upon learning about Faila’s accomplishments, she decided to extend her marathon by an additional 10 days.

This ambitious endeavour is being live-streamed on her YouTube channel and is taking place within her restaurant, Naija Jollof, intending to surpass the existing record of 119 hours held by Irish chef Alan Fisher.

Meanwhile, the Guinness World Records Twitter account has responded to Chef Failatu Abdul-Razak’s remarkable endeavour to break the record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.

After an impressive 226 hours, Faila officially concluded her marathon today, January 10, 2024. Ghanaian Twitter influencer Olele Salvador tagged Guinness and alerted them to this extraordinary feat shortly after Chef Faila brought an end to the cook-a-thon.

In response, Guinness expressed their intention to thoroughly examine all the evidence associated with the cookathon and duly acknowledge her achievement.
