Court Throws Out Gyakye Quayson’s Contempt Case Against K.T. Hammond

The contempt case against Adansi Asokwa MP Kobina Tahir Hammond was thrown out by an Accra court.

On Thursday, October 19, 2023, the court threw out the case because there wasn’t enough evidence to support a conviction.

K.T. Hammond, known by his affectionate moniker, faced allegations of making remarks during a media interview that were considered biassed in the criminal case involving Quayson, who is currently being charged with dual citizenship.

In January of this year, James Gyakye Quayson made it clear that he was not concerned about serving time in prison. During an interview on Citi TV, Gyakye Quayson expressed his confidence in being cleared of all allegations.

When questioned about the chance of imprisonment in the event of a conviction, he said, “No, why should I? I believe in the justice system. The fundamental thing about any judicial matter is that person intended to commit that crime. Did he plan it, I have not planned anything of such.”

“My strongest conviction is that this is just a matter of time. When you believe you have done the right thing, you shouldn’t be afraid. I trust the court will deliver a very positive verdict. I trust my lawyers; I trust the conscience of the people,” he added.

When asked if he was afraid of jail time, Quayson said, “So I don’t fear going to jail at all.” James Gyakye Quayson is currently undergoing legal proceedings for the offence of perjury at the High Court located in Accra.
