Do You Sleep At Night? – Yvonne Nelson Tackles Akufo-Addo As Dumsor Threatens Lives Of Babies At Tema General Hospital

Yvonne Nelson has taken to Twitter (X) to address Nana Akufo Addo following the distressing news about the dire consequences of dumsor on babies at Tema General Hospital.

A heart-wrenching video showcasing the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the hospital has surfaced on social media, shedding light on the devastating effects of dumsor on the lives of Ghanaians.

The video portrays the ward as immersed in darkness due to the lack of electricity supply. Although the exact date of the video remains unknown, a voice in the background, presumably belonging to a hospital staff member, provides some context.

“There is lights out here at the Tema General Hospital. This baby is on CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) and all of it have gone off.

While there is oxygen available, there is no flow meter to connect. If we don’t get light in a few minutes, the probability that we might lose a lot of babies is high,” she stated.

The staff indicated that the unit is full, including up to 10 babies who are in critical condition.

Yvonne Nelson expressed her distress on X by launching a scathing attack on Nana Akufo-Addo, questioning how he could rest peacefully at night while his severe incompetence was leading to significant harm for the people of Ghana, particularly highlighted by the challenges faced by infants.

Interestingly, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has stated that there is no requirement to announce any schedule regarding the ongoing power cuts nationwide as the situation has not escalated to the dumsor phase.

During a radio interview on Accra-based Citi FM on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, Laila Abubakar, the External Communications Manager of ECG, emphasized that the current power outages do not warrant the adoption of a load-shedding timetable. She mentioned that there could be other reasons behind the recent power interruptions.

“The thing is, we just want people to be aware that when your power goes off, it is not always a matter of load shedding.

“There are several issues and there are some of them that fall at the doorsteps of ECG. We are doing as much as possible to solve the ones that we can.

“There aren’t any issues with shedding load. The load shed, I think is what people understand by ‘Dumsor’. But usually, when someone asks me if, there is Dumsor, I ask them what do you understand and what do you think ‘Dumsor’ means. Unfortunately, there wouldn’t be a timetable”, she stated.
