FC Barcelona Vice President Contacts Messi For Potential Summer Return

FC Barcelona’s vice president, Rafa Yuste, has reportedly contacted Lionel Messi regarding a potential summer return to the club.

Messi left Barcelona in 2021 to join Paris Saint-Germain, but rumours have been circulating that he may return to his former club. Yuste’s contact with Messi suggests that Barcelona is interested in bringing the Argentine back to the Camp Nou.

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner’s deal at the Parc des Princes came with the option of an additional year that Messi has thus far been reluctant to take up.

According to a Friday report from Mundo Deportivo, PSG is willing to give Messi “more money and more years” than simply the “plus one.”

According to a report from the French sports publication L’Equipe on Thursday, Messi presently earns €3.375 million ($3.7 million) per month from the Ligue 1 powerhouses, placing him third in the standings behind teammate Neymar and leader Kylian Mbappe.

Yuste acknowledged his club’s interest in re-signing Messi during a press conference earlier today in Spain.

“Leo [Messi] and his family know the affection I have for them. I participated in the negotiations that unfortunately did not lead to a successful conclusion,” Yuste began, reminiscing about the Argentine’s exit.

“I have the thorn in my side that Leo could not continue in our club. If we are talking about La Masia and grassroots football, we are talking about Messi.

“Of course I would love for him to come back, for what it could represent at a sporting, social and economic level. We are in contact with them, yes,” Yuste confirmed.

Barcelona has been struggling financially in recent years, and Yuste has acknowledged the club’s delicate situation.

The club will not be reckless in its spending this summer, and Yuste has stated that the club will not throw the house out the window for any player. However, Yuste’s contact with Messi suggests that the club is still interested in making big moves in the transfer market.

Yuste has been with Barcelona since 2021 and is the first vice president in charge of the sporting area. He has been active in business in Europe, the US, Africa, Canada, Asia, and South America since 1983. His recent comments on Dembele and Messi suggest that he is playing a key role in Barcelona’s negotiations and transfer strategy.
