Ghana Movie Is Not Dead – Nikki Samonas

Ghanaian actress and filmmaker, Nikki Samonas claims the film industry is thriving more than ever. She went into detail about how difficult it was to shoot during and after the COVID-19 outbreak.

Despite this, the actress emphasised that investors are now helping the movie industry with advertising. Nikki Samonas made the comment at an exclusive preview of Patoranking’s forthcoming album, World Best. She explained that films aren’t given as much attention as music because “music is noisy and everywhere; it flows like water, while a movie is fire and earth, which is not as loud as compared to music.”

When asked if she agreed that the movie industry has slowed down, she said, “How? No, since when? Right now, it’s up. I mean, it dipped really hard after COVID; in fact, after COVID, it went down because it was difficult for us to come back up.”

“Now, with a lot of corporate investment and investors, especially Akwaaba Magic, and a lot of investors coming on board because now we are using digitization to market the movies so I think it has picked up tremendously,” Nikki said.

In an interview with JoyNews’ Becky on Sunday, September 3, the actress said that her fans may look forward to three upcoming projects with Akwaaba Magic on DSTV. Nikki also mentioned the premiere of Coming to Africa 2, a film in which she co-starred with Nana Ama McBrown and Gloria Sarfo.

Meanwhile, Beverly Afaglo Baah stated recently that there hasn’t been much of an update on Ghana’s film industry in recent years. With several actors bemoaning the decline of the industry, Afaglo added her voice to the chorus, saying that hope of a turnaround is all that they have now.

While discussing the film industry’s collapse on UTV’s Showbiz Night, she cited a lack of funding and the inability to access necessary resources as two major causes. She also mentioned the unsettling trend of private investors in the film industry who put money into the industry but get little return on their investment.
