Ghanaian Movie Industry Is Dead – Beverly Afaglo Delivers Verdict

Ghanaian actress, TV host, and businesswoman Beverly Afaglo Baah has expressed her sadness over the current state the film industry.

There hasn’t been much of an update on Ghana’s film industry in recent years, with several actors bemoaning the decline of the industry. Afaglo has added her voice to the chorus, saying that hope of a turnaround is all that they have now.

While discussing the film industry’s collapse on UTV’s Showbiz Night, she cited a lack of funding and the inability to access necessary resources as two major causes. She also mentioned the unsettling trend of private investors in the film industry who put money into the industry but get little return on their investment.

“We were holding onto hope, thinking it would bounce back, but it seems far-fetched; truth be told, the industry is dead. I was having a conversation with one of my colleagues about the industry, but in conclusion, we realised there is absolutely nothing happening towards reviving the industry. It is pretty worrying,” she stated.

“Only Akwaaba Magic on DSTV produces content lately by contracting producers like Shirley Frimpong Manso, Ivan Quarshigah, and Smartys productions. We are doing the best we can, but it is not working. Our very own actors turned producers don’t even get their returns when they invest in production.

Beverly Afaglo recently stated that her career stalled because of marriage, revealing that marriage and childbirth slowed down the careers of Beyoncé, Becca, and most female celebrities
