Grammy Awards 2024: Recording Academy Announces Ceremony and Nomination Dates

Los Angeles will once again host the Grammy Awards on Sunday, February 4, 2024. CBS and the Recording Academy announced the date and time for the upcoming 66th annual event on Thursday morning, saying that it will be broadcast on CBS and streamed live on Paramount+.

The organizers also revealed that the nominations for the 66th Grammy Awards would be revealed on November 10th. After a board of trustees meeting earlier this June, the Recording Academy announced the yearly changes to its rules and guidelines.

They introduced a new category for African and Afrobeat music to their annual awards scheme. There will be three additional categories at the annual awards ceremony in 2024, one of which is Best African Music Performance. The other two are for Best Pop Dance Recording and Best Alternative Jazz Album, respectively.

The various musical traditions of the continent, including their melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic aspects, will be honoured in this section. Among the genres that may be included are Afrobeat, Afro-fusion, Afro-Pop, Afrobeats, Alte, Amapiano, Bongo Flava, Genge, Kizomba, Chimurenga, High Life, Fuji, Kwassa, Ndombolo, Mapouka, Ghanaian Drill, Afro-House, South African Hip-Hop, and Ethio Jazz.

It’s a huge deal that there’s now a category specifically for “Best African Music Performance,” since it means African musicians may finally get their music heard all around the world.

Beyoncé won four awards for “Renaissance” and the song “Cuff It” at the 65th Grammy Awards in February of this year, bringing her overall number of Grammys to 32.
