Guinness World Records Finally Reveal Why They Disqualified Afua Asantewaa Sing-A-Thon Attempt
While Ghanaians keep discussing on social media about Afua Asantewaa’s disqualification from the singing marathon attempt, officials from Guinness World Records have explained the reasons behind Afua’s disqualification.
Amidst the online discussions, Kwame Dazie from Joy FM reached out to the officials, seeking clarification on why Afua’s attempt was unsuccessful.
The response provided by the officials shed light on the situation for Ghanaians and other followers of Afua’s impressive singing marathon journey.
In an email to Joy FM, the officials stated that Afua failed to meet the requirements as she had violated some of their rules.
“Afua Asantewaa’s singathon attempt was not successful due to guidelines around rest break timings not being met. These rules are standard across all of our ‘longest marathon’ records,” PR Executive for the Guinness World Records, Alina Polianskaya replied to a mail by Joy FM entertainment journalist Kwame Dadzie.
On Friday, February 23, 2024, Ghana’s Afua Asantewaa’s attempt to break the longest singing marathon she undertook in December 2023 was announced as unsuccessful by the Guinness World Records (GWR). In a statement released on X (formerly Twitter), the GWR expressed their optimism for her to make another endeavor despite this setback.
“Unfortunately Afua’s Guinness World Records attempt for the longest singing marathon was not successful, but we hope that she will make another attempt soon. We’ve seen how inspirational it has been for her fans. The evidence check had already begun before Afua requested priority service, so we refunded her payment earlier this month. We wish Afua the best of luck with any future record attempts,” the response by GWR said.
Afua Asantewaa Aduonum, sang from December 24 to December 28, 2023, and has since become a popular figure in entertainment in Ghana.
While awaiting a response from Guinness, she embarked on various media engagements, sharing her experience during the sing-a-thon.
