How I Got My Stage Name—Ayra Starr

During a recent interview, singer Ayra Star expressed her gratitude towards her boss, Don Jazzy, for his significant contribution to her stage persona and for helping her get an appropriate stage name for her.

The talented artiste, whose real name is Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, revealed to Arise TV that Don Jazzy played a crucial role in the creation of her stage name.

Ayra Starr explained that she came up with the name “Ayra,” which symbolizes being woke and open-minded, while Don Jazzy added the suffix “Starr.” Before joining Mavin Records, Ayra Starr used the stage name “Oyin,” derived from her given name, Oyinkansola.

She said; “There is this Yoruba name called Ira, I wanted people to pronounce it as ‘Aira.’ And I was like the only way the can pronounce it is by spelling it ‘A Y R A.’ So, I was thinking about it and something just told me to go ‘A Y R A.’

“And went I did, everything just came together: The meaning of the name, it felt like God was speaking to me. And ‘Starr’ was Don Jazzy’s idea. Ayra means ‘woke and open minded.’ And that’s what I want. I want to be honoured and respected.”

Back in March this year, Tru News Report shared an intriguing report about Ayra. After getting stuck in an elevator and consequently missing her show in Manchester City, the Nigerian singer was sighted singing praise hymns to God.

Starr claimed that they were on their way to a performance where she was scheduled to perform, but the lift developed a fault, preventing them from getting to the venue.

She and her crew filmed themselves singing to God, obviously for a given intervention. When the video surfaced online, some internet users who had had comparable experiences also shared their own experiences.

Tru News Report came across some of the comments as shared below;

Christy Douglas: “Same thing happened to me on our way to akwaibom 2 years ago for a wedding, our car broke down without a fault, we were on the road till 10pm

EDDIEVIBES&: “Mehn Only who experience this will know Wasup, cuz the one I was stuck last yr,For 11 good hours till the next morn,God saved me. I wld have bin dead”
