I Didn’t Use A Calculator During Core-Maths – Achimota Rasta Whiz Kid On WASSCE Experience

Tyrone Iras Marghuy, the Achimota School Rasta student, has made a revealing statement about his West African Senior School Certificate Examination.

While not many who sit for the West African Examination Council-administered exam will chalk the enviable feat of scoring A in all subjects, Tyrone, who made this achievement said he rather found the exam easy to conquer.

Speaking in a recent interview with 3Extra, Tyrone disclosed that he made a personal decision to put his calculator aside when he sat for the Core-Mathematics paper and thus performed all his calculations off-head.

 “My favourite is Math; so the Math at some point, I don’t want to mention it but at some point, I chose not to use a calculator,” he stated.

Beyond finding the questions easy to solve, he noted that the decision to ditch a calculator was aimed at making the moment memorable.

“My thing was that, with the way I love Math I want it to be memorable. So that one day I’ll sit down and be like Tyrone, you did try your best,” he added.

Tyrone gained popularity when the management of Achimota School sought to deny admission to him and another Rastafarian student, Oheneba Nkrabea on the basis of their wearing of dreadlocks.

The matter which ended up in a High Court saw the judicial system upholding their admission in reference to their right to religious practice.

Tyrone since his admission showed brilliance and ended up as a member of the school’s National Science and Maths Quiz team.

His story gained the attention of Ghana and led to the sharing of divided opinions on the decision by the school to attempt to deny him admission coupled with the Attorney General’s Office’s decision to defend same in court.
