“I Used A Cement Block To Smash Major Mahama’s Head”- Killer Testifies In Court

Major Maxwell Adam Mahama was murdered by a crowd who mistook him for an armed robber. Yesterday, another suspect confessed to being there at the scene and beating the corpse with a cement block.

Yesterday, four of the fourteen suspects began their defences. One of them, Akwasi Baah, acknowledged to smashing the dead soldier’s head using a cement block, but he claimed the guy was already dead when he did it.

Defendant, represented by George Bernard Shaw, testified that he arrived at the scene of the lynching after the crime had already taken place and that he had not seen any of the mob’s violent actions.

Murder suspect Akwasi Baahh testified in his own defence that he had been a victim of a robbery the day before the lynching and that, upon arriving at the scene, he noticed that the murdered soldier was wearing a boot identical to that which one of the criminals wore during the heist.

On May 28, 2017, he was travelling from Dunkwa-on-Offin to Denkyira Obuasi when armed robbers with an AK-47 rifle, a pump action gun, and pistols kidnapped the van. The attackers ordered everyone to exit the vehicle and searched everyone inside.

He was home the next morning when he heard the town’s young men apprehending one of the armed thieves from the day before.

The armed robber, he said, had also shot a young guy in the foot and carried him to the clinic, so he went there to see if the victim was a relative of his own.

He claimed to have seen the revolver used to rob him the day before and that the deceased was wearing the same boots as the ones used to kick him during the robbery. “That’s when I picked up a block and smacked the dead guy,” he admitted.

During the prosecution’s cross-examination of the defendant, Chief State’s Attorney Frances Mullen Ansah presented the terrible lynching footage, and the defendant admitted to breaking the dead Major Mahama’s head with a rock.

He testified that the cement block was so heavy that he had to carry it with two hands but disputed that he intentionally broke Major Mahama’s head.
